MRAUK U
(MYO HAUNG)
Mrauk U ( Myo Haung ) is an ancient capital city date
back in the 15th century. It's lies on the rocky plain
between the Le –myo and Kaladan River intersected by
ranges of hills and numerous canals. The beautiful
landscapes river trip about 6 hours from Sittwe to
Mrauk U. In 16 centuries Portuguese missionary was stayed
in Mrauk U about five years. The city surrounded by high
rough mountains , walls of nature make and dispending
with artificial ones. As in old Myanmar capitals the
archaeological activity was the outcome of strong
religious favor. Other near interest places are Wasali
ancient city, Chin women tattoo face villages and other
local villages. Nice for travel to Mrauk U between Nov
to end of March.
S HITTHAUNG
TEMPLE
The Shitthaung temple or " Temple of the 80,000 Buddha's
" located about half a mile the north of the old place
site was built by King Min Bin in 1535.It was
constructed six feet thick of solid sandstone and like "
rock cave tunnel ". With its thick wall, tiny windows
and commanding views of the surroundings area , no
mortar was used in the construction and stones were
connected with stone brackets.
KOETHAUNG
TEMPLE
S tanding on a plain of rice fields is the Kothaung
Temple , the name means 90,000 and probably signified
the number of Buddha images it was supposed to
contain. It was built by King MinTaikkha, the son of
King Min Bin who built shitthaung or temple of 80,000
pagodas, so the son exceeded the father by 10,000. It was
built in 1553. Its the biggest pagoda in the Mrauk U area, unlike some of the temples, not only sandstone, but
bricks were also used in this temple.
HTUKKANTHEIN
TEMPLE
Htukkan or Dukkhan, the temple stands on a hill, 30 ft
high, having a flat surface like that of a drum, king Minphalaung built the pagoda in 1571 A.D. Like the
Shitthaung Pagoda and Dukkanthein was built with
sandstones and layers of bricks over the roof. Inside the
temple around the wall have many stone sculptures
figures.
YADANAPON
PAGODA
Yadanapon pagoda was built in A.D 1612 , and was donated
by king Min Khamon and Queen Shin Htwe. There are lots of
architectural remaining of Mrauk U time. There are
seventeen smaller pagodas around the main pagoda. Each one
was donated by Kings , Queens and other royal families
of Mrauk U Dynasty.
PITAKATAIK
The little library or Pitakataik, the repository for
the Buddhist scriptures was built in 1591 also by King
Min Phalaung. There were 48 libraries in Mrauk U but only
this one is preserved.
LAUNGBANPYAUK
PAGODA
The Laungbanpyauk Pagoda built by King Minkhaunggraza in
1525 A.D. Two walls surrounded it.The outer surface of
the inner wall is decorated with fine designs and is
formed by stones projecting an inch out of clay tablets
of red, yellow, blue, and green alternately with a
white center. The design is so fine and outstanding that
well – known architects have recorded it in detail.Other
interest places in Mrauk U are City market, Wasali
ancient city, Mahamuni Buddha, Ancient monastery,
sunset mountain and Chin women Tattoo face villages.
SITTWE
Sittwe is the capital city of Rakhine state, at the
mouth of the Kalanda River where it empties into the Bay
of Bengal. Offshore delta islands from a wide protected
channel that has served as an important harbour for many
centuries. Sittwe has at last a 2000 year history of
habitation, though in its mordern from the city started
as a trading port around 200 years ago and further
developed after the British occupation of 1826.during
the British era, international trade along the coast
bloomed. The town has two museums of worth of interest
and huge local market.
NGWE SAUNG
BEACH
Ngwe Saung beach is located about 250 km to the west of
Yangon and about 35 km Northwest of Pathein. Second
famous beach in Myanmar. About 6 hours drive from
Yangon. One of the unspirit , clean , sandy and shaded
with coconut trees. There you can study diving and
snorkeling.
CHAUNG THAR
BEACH
Chaung Tha Beach is same way going to Ngwe Saung beach ,
about 250 km and 6 hours drive from Yangon. There you
will find unspoiled white sandy beach and on of the
relaxing place in Myanmar. |
