YANGON
Yangon, the capital city, is the main gateway to Myanmr. Evergreen and cool with lush tropical trees,
shady parks and beautiful lakes, Yangon has earned the
name of the Garden City of the East. Yangon was founded
by the King Alaungpaya on the site of a small village
called Dagon when he conquered Lower Myanmar in 1755.The
name Yangon means " End of Strife" which was anglicized
to Rangoon. The present day Yangon covers over 350 sq. km.
and has a population of over 5 million.
SHWEDAGON
PAGODA
The most notable building in Yangon is the Shwedagon
Pagoda , a great cone-shaped and the most famous tourist
destination of Myanmar.The Pagoda itself is solid brick
stupa ( Buddhist reliquary ) that is completely covered
with gold. It rises 326 ft ( 100 m ) on a hill 168 ft
(51 m) above the city.It was built by King Okkalapa over
2500 years ago.
SULE
PAGODA
In the downtown area Sule pagoda is a monument which
most foreign visitors pass by unnoticed. The Pagoda is
known to be 157 ft high and built 2000 years ago. It's
landmark of the town center.
BOTAHTAUNG
PAGODA
The Botataung Pagoda was named after the thousand
military leaders who escorted relics of Buddha brought
from India over two thousand years ago. The pagoda
overlooked the pleasant water front of the Yangon river.
CHAUK HTAT GYI
PAGODA
The Chaukhtatgyi pagoda is famous for it's huge image of
relining Buddha, built in 1966.Original old image built
in 1907.It measures about 68 meters and is housed in
iron structure with corrugated iron sheets roof of six layers. The entire cost of maintenance is

peoples donations.
NATIONAL
MUSEUM
National museum is located on Pyay Road in a splendid
five – storey building constructed for study about
Myanmar. There you can study the Lion Throne, original
of the Myanmar alphabet, Myanmar history, Royal Regalia, Culture of ancient periods, stone weapons of the
Neolithic period, Ancient piece of jewellery, fossil of
an anthropoid primate and more dealing culture and
religious materials.
BOGYOKE AUNG SAN MARKET
(SCOTT MARKET)
The Market is the most popular market and a great
tourist destination in Yangon. The market was first built
and inaugurated on the present premises in 1926. It was
named Scott Market after Mr. C. Scott the then Municipal Commissioner. There over 1000 shops selling luxury item,
handicrafts, food stuff, clothing, jewellery, fashion
and consumer goods. Visitor notes every Monday the market
is close.
KANDAWGYI
NATURE PARK
The Kandawgyi Nature Park is excellent recreation and
relaxation Zone in Yangon. Kandawgyi means " biggest Lake
" , it's situated in Eastern side of great Shwedagon
Pagoda.
KARAWEIK
HALL
The Karaweik Hall is located in the Kandawgyi Nature
park. The golden Mythical Bird is a restaurant
entertaining with traditional dance and music in the
evening.
ZOOLOGICAL
GARDEN
Yangon Zoo is located near in the Kandawgyi park, the
Zoo is noted for it's collection of wild animals, flora
and fanna which have been collected over the years since
it was opened in 1906. The Zoo with it's collection of
nearly 200 species of animals and big shady trees.
THANLYIN
(SYRIAM)
Once a trading port occupied by the Portuguese in early
17th century, Thanlyin and it's surrounding offer many
attraction. The old buildings still stand in Evidence of
the days of Portuguese occupation. The 1822 metre long
bridge spanning the Bago River made possible the 45
minutes drive from Yangon. Kyaik – Khauk Pagoda and
Kyauktan Pagoda in the creek are worth visiting.
KYAIK- KHAUK
PAGODA
The Kyaik Khauk pagoda is built on a hillock on the road
to Kyauk Tan. It is an imposing golden stupa similar to
the Shwedagon pagoda.
YE LA PAYA
(KYAUK TAN PAGODA)
Ye Le Paya at Kyauk Tan means the Pagoda midstream built
on a late rite reef. It was built by King Zeyasona, the
seventh King of the Pada Dynasty in the third century
BC.

CEMETERY
Located at Htaukkyant, 32 km from Yangon, on the way
to Bago, the Allied War Memorial Cemetery has 27, 000
tombstones of Allied soldiers who lost their lives in
Myanmar during the World War II. The cemetery is peaceful
and beautiful tended.
TWANTE
A small town on the Twante Canel is two hours away by
boat or car from Yangon. The trip itself is joy and a
chance to see rural life along the way while Twante is
known for making potteries.
BAGO
Located only 80 km from Yangon. On the way going to Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda and it was an ancient capital of Mon
Kingdom in 15th century. There can visit Shwe tha lyaung
Reclining Buddha ( 55 meters long ), Shwe maw daw
Pagoda, kalyani Sima (Ordination Hall ), 28 Meter high
huge image of Kyaikpun Pagoda and the place of King
Bayinnaung are some of the places of interest.
KYAIK PUN
PAGODA
The Kyaik Pun Pagoda was built by King Dhamma Zedi in
1476 A.D. It is in the form of four gigantic Buddha
images all sitting posture facing the four cardinal
points of the compass. They are seated back to back
against a massive brick pillar.
SHWEMAWDAW
PAGODA
The pagoda was originally built by two merchants
original high is 23 meters in the 8th century. It was
built higher several time, at present heigh 114 meters
stature in 1954.It's 14 meters higher than great
Shwedagon pagoda. In 1930 when the big earthquake, upper
part of the Pagoda was collapsed. The broken part of the

SHWETHALYAUNG
PAGODA
Shwethalyaung reclining Buddha built by the Mon King
Migadippa I in 9th century. It was only in 1881 that a
group of contractors who were building a railway for the
British administrative station stumbled across it. At the
time it was viewed as no more than a " source of brick
and stone" hidden in an earthen mound in the jungle. In
1906, after the undergrowth had been cleared away, an
iron building was erected over the Buddha. Although the
building detracts from the view of the statue inside. The
statue was most recently renovated in 1948, when it was
re-gilded and painted.
